Pattaya School for the Blind

Learning to use a white cane is important for the children at the School for the Blind.

From an early age they must be able to get from classroom to classroom, to the dining room or wherever else they wish to go.

First they must learn the correct way to hold the cane and how to move it from side to side. They then walk around the school grounds, confidently chatting as they go, until the teachers place obstructions in their way.

It may look cruel, but the students must be able to feel any thing that gets in their way, and each time they bang into anything they all say, ‘Kor Thort’, which is the Thai way of saying ‘excuse me’.
